The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), says it is seeking the assistance of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji to appeal to his people to collect their abandoned Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Speaking at the Olubadan palace in Ibadan on Wednesday, Mr Mutiu Agboke, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in Oyo state, urged the monarch to use his position to appeal to come for their PVCs.
He disclosed that his visit to the palace was as a result of high esteem and importance attached to the position of traditional rulers.

Agboke said sensitisation and awareness campaign over PVCs registration and collection would not be completed without visiting the traditional rulers.
He, therefore, pleaded with the monarch to assist the commission in reaching out to his subjects on the need to collect their PCVs and those who were yet to register to do so.

According to the REC, more than 700,000 PVCs were still in the custody of the commission in the state.

He further implored Olubadan to admonish his subjects against thuggery, hooliganism and other forms of political violence before, during and after 2019 elections.

In his response, Adetunji, assured the electoral body of his support and promised to prevail on the residents in Ibadan land to collect their PVCs.

The traditional, however, urged the commission to remain impartial in the discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

Electoral officers in the 11 local government council areas in Ibadan land were part of the INEC team that visited the Olubadan.
